The essays on the SMM and Rice Park projects* are based on Carol MacAllister’s lively interviews and writeups. Jack subsequently used Carol’s reports as the kernel for expanded essays; in other words, Carol challenged Jack to put his existing notes, writings and documents in order. 

Carol was a tireless writer who moved to St Paul in 2017. Through conversations with John Mannillo, she became committed to documenting some of the people/projects that made St Paul today: George Latimer, Ruby Hunt, Jane Prince and…Jack Hoeschler (among others). 

We are very grateful to Carol for her signal role in capturing St. Paul, its leaders and their legacy. Brava, Carol! LLH
