Weaver Dunes, Sep 27 1980: we drive down the Mississippi past Kellogg for an etymology walk--covering little ground! (Jack is on the Nature Conservancy board which oversees this new property.)
LLH almost backs into a rattlesnake...but otherwise it's a really slow time!

Fritz is invited to meet Fritz Mondale when he flies into MSP the night of the national election (he was Jimmy Carter's VP); Thanksgiving 1980 in Worthington, MN with the Doyles.
Maureen and Jake visit. We celebrate Jack's 39th birthday.
Fritz invites a Hmong friend from Webster Magnet for an overnight, introducing him to sledding. Manny loves to cook.

Hydrangea, someone's pet rabbit, wanders into our yard and becomes our pet (until a racoon eats him); Scruffy, the most challenging cat ever, also "adopts" us until he finally moves on (probably understood my threats!); darling Mookie rests and Fritz plays a number of instruments.

We all drive Fritz to Interlochen in Michigan where he will spend 8 weeks in Junior Camp studying music (we later learn it's not the best supervised unit, unfortunately).

We stop at Mackinac Island for a lovely overnight--no cars allowed so we take a delightful carriage ride.

LLH visits Fritz at Interlochen Camp--a rather off-beat group of fellow campers (Jake Hoeschler also went to the camp and told us to "get the kid the hell out of that place" (one counselor appeared too friendly with the boys...sigh.
