1/31/2009: Papa enjoys his best guy! Feb. 1: we take Jack (Gruffalo) to the Childrens Theater Company. Papa is clearly relaxed about William's feeding schedule!
Chicago via train with Jack O'B: 2/26 - 3/1 (his dear father leaves his Hastings, MN office to wave to us travelers. Feb 27: Museum of Science and Industry (not the best fit for a very young kid, but Jack is patient.)
We visit Miriam Elson, Manny's sister in law and a great scholar. Feb 28: Field Musuem then the nearby Shedd Aquarium.
Mar 1: Chicago Art Institute where we visit old "friends" and make new acquaintances. Interesting bird in our drain. St Patrick's Day duo.
Mar 25: Jack O'B is 4 years old! Pirate party at his home and bowling party with friends at the U of M St Paul campus. Jack learns to ride a bike on our cirlcle. John Doyle and grandson Aidan. Leaetta Hough is 62.
Our new library (converted old garage and built a new one--award winning!).
Apr 4: Oakland, CA Museum. Then on to th new (stunning) Oakland Cathedral. Frank, Bob & Jack Hoeschler as we gather to celebrate Uncle Bob and Gerts' 90th birthdays. Delightful and heartening.
Tyler Lovas plays Lacrosse at Middlebury. Apr 11: Linda and Jack O'B with Brandie Snidarich's baby, Lucas. The two-Jacks do the annual preparation of the vegetable garden at the cabin.
Apr 12: Easter Sunday annual brunch at the Minneapolis Club (after Mass at St. Olaf across the street). Judy Ranheim, LLH, & KBHO'B. David & Luther Ranheim, JGH, TO'B & William. Jack, William & Papa - no cigar.
William and Hmong friend. Tyler, Sonja, Abby (Hoeschler) & Steve Lovas at Middlebury. LLH visits the marvelous Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. May 10: Mother's Day celebration at the cabin (after garden is planted and tended!).
Maine 12-17th. We visit Peter and Carol Blyberg in Blue Hill, then drive down the coast. One stop, Ft. Edgecomb.
To Kennebunk. The Delegation retreats and meets at Beth Fluke's lovely home: view from our room. The Colony - Honeymoon site 43 years ago! May 25: Memorial Day at cabin.
Tomas Gueglio, Argentine composer joins us at the cabin. Fritz in London. Georgetown reunion, May 28-30/09. Jack with Beth Johnson (Tony's spouse). Jane and Mark Pisano. The usual fun row of the guys--always brings tears to my eyes.
GU dinner in Arlington. June 3, Willian is one! We toast our darling at his home.

Jun 21: Dragon Boat Races. LLH becomes judge in cooking contest! Fairmont Hotel. Indian Days at Art Museum.
Elvis at Greek Days. Kids books! Van Dusen Gardens where Jack O'B loves the maze.
Our comely dinner view at Van Dusen. We then drive north to visit Louise Varco on Canada's Sunshine Coast on Monday. Tuesday we post in Vancouver's Stanley Park. Jack O'B runs to Fort.
The two "boys" discuss tugs & container ships. Nitobe Garden. Anthropology Museum where Jack O'B photographs his feet! Queen Elizabeth Gardens. Wed Jun 24: Commissioning Club dinner at Alan and Mary Morgans' home. This Club was inspired by our MCC and has done some impressive work.
Seattle Japanese Garden, Thursday. Friday, by Space Needle. The Music Experience & a Michael Jackson tribute. Seattle Opera rehearsal.
Saturday brunch with Aaron Kernis' family before returning home. July 4, 2009. Marine on St. Croix old-fashioned parade, followed by picnic at Gem Lake.
July 6: LLH has an NEA gig in DC; the two Jacks tag along.
Jack O'B calls home after dinner with Leslie Steen and Bob Ebel. We enjoy a Navy Band concert, July 7th. July 8th: Jack stands with composer Gunther Schuller. July 11th at the cabin.
William comes into his own and enjoys the cabin.
July 19th: birthday trip to Heen cabin in Maynard, MN - Carol has thoughtfully planned a geologic & historic tour of the area. MN River. We visit Karol Emmerich's lily-breeding Farm in Shakopee.

July 29 - Aug. 9th East Coast trip with Morses. 7/30: Berkshires. We stay at the porches in N. Adams, MA. MASS MoCA: dramatic spaces for large art works. Hyde House on Lake Otsego.
Cooperstown, Fenimore Musuem (and Glimmerglass Opera!). Lake Otsego. Aug 4: A foggy sail in RI. 3 of Morse grandchildren, dinner at Brookline's Country Club.
Aug. 8-10th, North Shore of MN (89 degrees on Gunflint trail). Private Gunflint Island. Naniboujou Lodge, unchanged.
Brule River hike. Revisiting our old haunts & wonderful memories. Devil's Kettle on the Brule. We stay at a Cascade Lodge cabin. Cascade Falls hike, looking down the river... and up!

Sep 20: We meet Ann and Frank Porter in DC and tour the Manassas Civil War Battle site.
