Mar '96: "World of Vietnamese Music Festival"--fabulous multi-city outcome of Philip Blackburn's residency there. We house the musicians at the St Paul Seminary where the protesters can't find them (cost saving measure had political advantage!) Apr '96, Ice out on Gem Lake, latest ever! Mar 31 party for Barnard Prof. Peter Juviler in NYC with his British cousins. May 19:. Steve Doyle's graduation from Boston University.
June: David Slawson arrives from KY and our lives (and garden) are never the same! He sculpts the south part of the west yard to turn it into a North Shore-like beach with grass lake.
David and LLH pick out 37 tons of glacial erratics from a Shakopee quarry, as well as North Shore stones, all trucked in to create our Lake Superior beach.
Oct: leaves and gravel soften and naturalize our new beach. LLH requested boulders whose shapes we could see under the snow.
May 25:, Steve Lovas Sr. funeral at Fort Snelling.
After the ceremony the family comes to the cabin to share food and memories.

Fourth of July weekend in Seattle: We celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary over several days , replete with sightseeing and concert. Jul 5: Slideshow & Seattle sights with Walt Weaver.
Jul 5: The City tour continues. Concert and dinner that eve at the Seattle Chamber Music Festival where we mark our 30th anniversary with another Paulus' premiere.
Jul 6: Whidbey Island bus tour for our Seattle guests; Deception Pass.

We visit Mother in Malvern, IA. On Aug 9, we tour the iconic NP Omaha train station. Aug. 10, we drive to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln; the arboretum is on the campus with each interior courtyard filled with plants mentioned by a different Nebraska author. Hildur Lovas at 81.

Dec 19: "Piano", a new work by composer Carol Barnett is played by Thelma Hunter on a lovely 1909 Steinway we purchase for the Schubert Club; both the piano and "Piano" are dedicated to Jeanne Baldy, our kids' piano teacher, with the debut at the St. Paul Landmark Center auditorium. Jeanne and Anne Baldy; JGH, Carol Barnett, Thelma Hunter, LLH and Jeanne Baldy. Meagan plays cello; Meagan, JGH and Janice.

Feb 4 Jack turns 55 and Nana treats us to a birthday dinner at the Ritz Carlton in Naples. Feb 7: the day after my collision with a pipe on the bike trail (LLH was looking at an alligator) I'm recovering in Pelican Bay apartment that Nana has purchased as a (very good) investment. Cocktails at Huegs' apartment just south of Nana's.

Feb 23: Bemidji State University opera singers, under the coaching of Fulton Gallagher, perform an afternoon of arias, duets, etc. Richard Zgodava accompanies them. Dinner follows. Kristen and Eric; Kristen and ? (Iowa attorney and one of Capitol Steps)
