Kristen continues to thrive and entertain.
March '69: Kristen delights and dons corrective shoes for mild toe-in

May 1969: Great-grandmother Maebelle Hoeschler visits. Neighbor boy Mikey Shoemaker would stop by "to see the beautiful baby!"
Hildur and Steve Lovas, Kristen's maternal grandparents visit from Tarrytown, NY. Late May road trip along the St. Croix River. With "Pom Pom" in the Yorkshire yard.

July 19, 1969: Linda is 25 today, toasted by our late Easter lilies--Manny comes from Chicago to visit and "walk" 9-month old Kristen.
Playing in the Yorkshire yard with Mike Shoemaker and in the pool with Jack (Kristen was a water-baby so swam under water from infancy...).
A warm day at Square Lake. Dressed to celebrate our 3rd anniversary at MIA art show opening (had my hair done; nice photo of us in the newspaper the next day!)
October 1, 1969: Kristen is 1; fabulous cakes provided by Marian Tournier in Jack's office; Linda and Kristen spend much of October in Tarrytown--with Margie Czermak in Lovas' yard.
Janet Hoeschler joins us in Tarrytown and for a ride up the Hudson River with Janice (who is working at Bergdorf's in NYC). Xmas in LaX.
Easter 1970; LLH takes clay sculpting classes at the JCC. Odds and ends at Yorkshire.

KBH with NJ-based Uncle Joe and Aunt Mary Lovas; Toasting a hoped-for pregnancy on Labor Day weekend 1970 on Madeline Island in Lake Superior.
Kristen with neighbors Mike, Laura and Joey Shoemaker, celebrating her 2nd birthday, 10.1.70. January 1971: We vacation in Florida with Lovas grandparents in Hoeschler spare condo. (The day before we left Kristen fell on the ice, cut her forehead and had stitches. She disguised it with a stick-on ribbon and sunglasses!)

LLH is 5 months pregnant with Fritz. With Lovas g-parents we visit Thomas Edison home in Fort Myers and Key West. (Great tour of Hemingway KW home by old girlfriend!)
We drive from FL to MN via Atlanta where we visit Charlie and Pat Czermak and wife, Pat, Feb 1971. MNOrch trumpeter, Steve Chenette, takes lovely photos of Kristen at Yorkshire.
LLH was suffering "morning sickness" that day.
Fritz is born on May 24. At one month Chenette does the honors of taking more lovely photos. Fritz seems loggy and LLH later realizes he has a fever!
July 1971: Manny Elson, our Vista landlord, travels from Chicago and falls in love with Fritz! From then on Manny becomes our adopted grandfather, visits several times a year and travels with.
Kristen tries to get the hang of holding her brother safely! With wonderful Marie Janisch, Mary Ann Feldman's mother, who becomes another adopted grandmother to our kids.

Jim Grundy (friend of LLH from grad school) and spouse, Lucretia, visit us from Canada. She is particularly nuts about Fritz!
Fritz is a happy, joyful baby, despite our many mistakes; but as often happens with a second child, the mother is much more relaxes! The only downside is his chronic ear infections that blocked his hearing and delayed his speech (until surgery at age 3).
Fritz turns 1, May 24 1971. Neighborhood children come celebrate and enjoy another wonderful cake or 2 by Marian Tournier.
Once again we spend a couple of weeks at our beloved cottage ($50 a week, if you please, with rent rising by $5 a year!) in June on Madeline Island in Lake Superior. Manny Elson joins us and is a great biking companion and sitter.

FRH turns 2 on May 24, 1973. Heather and Janice Hoeschler join us for a home party at Yorkshire. On May 31, after 4 1/2 years at Yorkshire, we move to 1630 Edgcumbe Road where we will stay for the next 52 years!

KBH is 5 as we celebrate the usual with some kids from Yorkshire et al, but in our new home at 1630 Edgcumbe Road in St Paul; with Hildur Lovas in at Schell (brewery) home in New Ulm, MN on a lovely Fall day.
Our first Halloween in our new home--always with homemade costumes, usually of the kids' design. Neighbors Lyle and Shirley Fisher greet the kids enthusiastically (there are few kids in the neighborhood). Steve and Hildur Lovas visit from NY. We visit newly-born Luther Ranheim where Fritz winds up his swing to the new mother's concern!
