Easter, April 16, 1995. Janice and Meagan Hoeschler. David and Judy Ranheim host us for Easter Brunch at the Minneapolis Athletic Club with some of David's family. Janice and Meagan (in KBH's hat). May 3, 1995 Paul Schoenfield reworks "Klezmer Rondos" for the NY Phil and we enjoy the debut. Susie and Louis Hill; Paul with Miriam and Lynn's parents; with bassist, composer and good friend, Jon Deak. May 5: LLH accepts an award from the American Composers Alliance, presented at Lincoln Center. Composer Aaron Kernis & Ann Stephens attend the ceremony.
Susan Hill; Louis Hill, Ann Stephens & Jack. LLH with Dan Godfrey. Post-award dinner at Juvilers. May 6: We go to CW Post in Long Island to attend rehearsals and performance: JGH, Paul Schoenfield, LLH and Charles Neidich.
May 13: We drive with Kristen up the West bank of the Hudson to visit the magnificent Storm King Art Center. From there we drive to Pocantico Hills and Kykuit for a strategic planning meeting of the Sail Alaska group. David RJr is seeking support and ideas for a more permanent way to protect Alaskan waters.
After a delightful meal and overnight at Kykuit, we drive on May 14 from Pocantico Hills to GWU graduation ceremony. However, a deluge floods the Baltimore tunnel so we have to detour, arriving in DC as the graduates were leaving the outdoor ceremony that never got started. (Saw a soaking Helen Thomas, commencement speaker, walk by the White House.) Reliable Aunt Laura and Uncle John Doyle were there on time. Jack gives congrats at FRH's apartment; Fritz (on the 5-year academic plan!) had a paper robe which shredded in the rain and dyed his clothes!
Under the gown. Graduation-Mother's Day lunch at the Occidental Grill in the Willard Hotel. Sharon (whose electric wheelchair became a danger in the storm) and Fritz. Our merry table included the Doyles, Leslie Steen and Bob Ebel, and Kristen's boyfriend, Eric.. With folks. Outside the hotel where Jack & I met at a tea dance in Sep 1962.
May 15 is a blessedly brighter day! We enjoy some of the abundant DC sights/sites.
May 21: Gem Lake neighbor, John Snidarich, stops by with some of his kids and their cousins.
Spring is sprunging.
May 25: Composer Aaron Kernis visits us at the cabin; he and composer Larry Siegel inspect a bird's nest cum eggs on our Bluebird Trail (about 28 boxes worth!) John Snidarch holds an orphaned baby squirrel. May 28: Composer Dan Brewbaker & Bjorn on the swings.
May 29 is a wonderful Memorial Day--perfect weather. Judy and David Ranheim; Bjorn Ranheim; Kate and Laura Doyle. On June 1&2 LLH travels to Largo, Florida to visit Daddy. LLH took this photo of his waving goodbye, sensing it would be their last visit. He died that December.

We attend the pre-performance dinner and premiere of Steve Paulus' "The Woman at Otowi Crossing" at Opera Theatre St Louis on Jun 23. The next evening we attend OTSL's 20th Anniversary Gala.
On Sunday the 25th we walk through the marvelous St. Louis Arboretum and Japanese Garden.
On Jun 28 we host another Composers Forum Annual Meeting at the cabin. Lower right: David Harris, Gary Schulte and Pop Wagner.

Chimayo, NM:we visit Barbara and Alvaro Cardona-Hine and purchase some lovely paintings. Wed Aug 2 we're off to Taos.
Fri Aug 4: Mesa Verde, always stunning.
We drive through the mountains to the Denver airport.
Aug 5: Black Canyon in Gunnison, CO. Sun Aug 6: Home again where Jack and the mower/wagon get the luggage and groceries up the hill to the cabin.

Aug 25: We join Louis and Susie Hill, and Susie's dear Boston friend, Dorothy Wallace, for a White Bear Lake boat ride. Jack and Dorothy hit it off since her lumber family once lived in LaX. Aug 27: our 29th wedding anniversary. Susie Hill and Thelma Hunter at the cabin.
Sep 2-3: Labor Day short weekend in La Crosse; Fritz and Hoeschler cousins; Judy Hoeschler lookin' good.
The usual Hoeschler family tennis tournament: Fritz, Nana and William.
Rock in the House in Fountain City, WI on the Mississippi River: once was enough! Kristen and Fritz, and with Zita. On Sep 4 Fritz and Kristen return to DC.
Caitlin Hill visits the cabin. A skink--sweet visitors usually found in basement.
Sep21: We attend Steve Paulus' Cleveland Orchestra premiere "Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra"; dinner in Cleveland with Ranheims whose son, Bjorn, studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Jack and LLH then fly to Ireland.) On Oct 22 we rejoice in the Minnesota Commissioning Club's first major work: "On the Day You Were Born", text by Debra Frasier, music by Steve Heitzeg. The Minnesota Orchestra debuts the piece, narrated by actress (and head of NEA), Jane Alexander.
Nov 23: Thanksgiving morning at Gem Lake, then up to Doyles for a lovely family buffet. Nov 24: skating party on our lake.
Fabulous early skating: a fast deep freeze produces a glassy surface (no snow). We can cover the entire lake and marvel at the plants below us. Dec 9 St Paul Assembly Dance. 12/22/95: Steve Lovas dies: we hear about it while skiing at Sun Valley.
We spend a delightful week with Louis, Susie and Caitlin Hill in their rental house in Sun Valley...a tradition we continue for several years (fly out Xmas day; return New Year's Day).
Nana Hoeschler shows up and stays at Sun Valley Lodge; she has fond memories and skies and skates there. (LLH generally needs to stay with her since her memory is faulty and she often takes the wrong turns.)
We enjoy downhill and cross-country skiing out there. Perfect!
