10/2/93 - We meet in O'Hare Airport to fly to Zurich; With Leaetta Hough and Gloria Sewell; Page Haines (TX), Madeline O'Brien (TX), Betty Lennox (MI).
10/3 - Zurich afternoon sightseeing tour. Lovely city. Evening walk on wooded Wanderweg. Grand.
10/4/93 - We arrive in Tirana, Albania. On the drive in from the airport we see these pillboxes, Hoxha's scheme to protect citizens from attack.
L, G & I end up in 2nd best hotel for 1 night. Grim; Leaky pipe provides shower for Leaetta.
Walk to Dajti Hotel for 1st meal in Albania; The photographer recovers from spray and documents bathroom; People's Auditorium.

10/5 - 8AM visit to Archaeological Museum; Zana Kamberi, Museum Director; Dr. Jane Hodgson and friend
Across street from Museum is Conservatory; Composer Cesk Zadeja, Guide Arianna; View down Main Street, few vehicles.
Selling cigarettes by Conservatory; Major Farmers' Market in Tirana; Apartment buildings across from Hospital; Hospital grounds; Native woman outside Children's Hospital.
Pediatric doctor's lecture & receive US supplies; Hallway of new hospital.
Mothers and sick children. Dehydration; The hospital; Women's Hospital.
10/5 - in PM Gloria and I go to Academy of Arts; Cesk Zadeja, Father of Albanian composition; Looking across to Archaeology Museum.
Ermir Dergjini and Cesk; Designed by Hoxha's son in law, new houses Soros Foundation and American Information Center; Evening meeting with female leaders.
Dinner at good cellar restaurant; 10/6/93 - Trip to Kruja, ancient capital; Kruja Citadel cum Museum to Skanderbeg.
Cute local kids 'guide' us, very sweet.
Off to Durrës in afternoon; Toward government leaders' villas; Hotel along the seashore they hope to turn into European playground; Along old road in town.
Excavation of Roman Amphitheater in Durres; Reclaiming houses to continue excavation; Byzantine Church also located there.
10/7/93, Thursday - 7:30 to Art Museum then off to see a High School; School janitor and broom; Play yard.
She wants to be a designer; With Principal
Business School.
We meet Business School Director; Busy translating texts to Albanian.
Students outside Business School.
We walk to Lily's for a lovely reception.
Afternoon reception at Ambassador's, good guy who learned language and asked to come here; Woodrow Wilson preserved Albania in post WW1.
Final meetings and dinner; Ermir Dergjini, Gloria, me, & Cesk Zadeja; Zana Kamberi, Arch. Museum Director; With Flutera, 'Butterfly'.
Friday, 10/8/83 - Fly to Budapest. PM briefing by American Embassy. Leaetta and I are thrilled with the city and walk it that evening. Grand weather too.
Saturday, 10/9/93 - Rain. Stumble on crafts shop where we get vests, shirt and belts.
Saturday PM city tour. Weather so-so. Downpour. Opera so-so too.
10/10 - Trip up the river. First stop, Estergom
Danube bend.
Lunch and tour Szentendre.
Monday, 10/11/93 - Tour School for Handicapped.
A bakery outside the school; PM, I meet Mariann Abraham and a pianist. Evening, organ recital.
Tuesday, 10/12 - Over lunch, Leaetta and I sightsee

Thursday, 10/14/93 - Drive from Budapest to Vienna where Jack meets me. Briefing at Coca-Cola then a lovely evening's walk with Leaetta.
